Alchemy vs Synthesis
Alchemy funds Runes; Synthesis climbs rarity. Most accounts stall because they fuse too early or melt pieces they should list.
Early Game Bias: Alchemy
Until second and third hero slots and basic automation are unlocked, Alchemy on junk is correct. Gold converts into formation power faster than a slightly better white sword.
The Cube UI defaults toward Synthesis visually, which tricks new players into fusing trash. Switch tabs on purpose. Your first hours should sound like coins, not fusion animations.
Lock any piece that is a strict slot upgrade or a learning tool for your starter. Everything else with no plan can fund Rune of Command. See the Rune hub for spend order.

Mid Game: Selective Synthesis
Synthesize when you have nine same-rarity duplicates and a Cube level that will not punish item levels. Keep market candidates out of the nine-slot grid.
Selective means you choose a lane - weapons for Ranger, armor for Knight - rather than fusing every complete set of nine because the button is lit. Random rarity without role focus still leaves your formation weak.
If synthesis results feel punishing, stop and level the Cube with Alchemy volume. Pushing fuses on a low synthesis tier is how item levels slide backward and morale dies.
- Nine duplicates of the rarity you intend to climb
- Cube synthesis level checked first
- Market/Trade Ship candidates removed from the pile
- Locks on anything you might regret
Quick Decision Tree
Write this tree into habit and you will avoid both poverty and accidental melts. AFK bags become a sorting exercise instead of a stress event.
- 1
Is it Arcana+ listable?
Prefer Trade Ship when the market is open - see Market hub.
- 2
Is it a strict upgrade?
Equip and lock; do not Auto Fill it away.
- 3
Still missing slots/automation?
Alchemy into gold for Runes.
- 4
Nine-pack ready and Cube leveled?
Synthesize along your role plan.
- 5
Unsure and tired?
Alchemy junk only; decide fuses later.

Cube XP Tips
Feeding far above or below your Cube level wastes XP efficiency. Community videos emphasize staying near your current Cube level band when melting or fusing for progression.
Alchemy of on-level junk is honest XP. Hoarding a stash of scary high items "for later" while your Cube stays underleveled makes later synthesis riskier - the opposite of safety.
Pair XP goals with account goals. If the third slot is days away, bias Alchemy even harder. If slots and Far North chests are done, you can spend more clicks on careful Synthesis.
Common Failure Cases
Melting a clean high grade during a market pause panic. Listing after a hold misunderstanding. Fusing nine items that included your only decent Knight chest because Auto Fill ignored an unlocked piece.
Another failure mode is endless Synthesis while Priest is still locked behind a missing slot. Rarity cosmetics will not outrun a two-hero formation.
Fix mistakes going forward: locks first, decision tree second, Market hub before any Arcana Alchemy, Rune hub before luxury fuse sprees.
