Overview
TBH: Task Bar Hero is a free-to-play idle hack-and-slash RPG that lives in your Windows taskbar. Your three-hero party fights automatically while you work, with 500+ items, deep build crafting, and Steam Market trading.
Last updated: May 28, 2026. Mechanics may change with patches — check Steam update notes.
What makes it unique
- Minimal screen footprint — runs alongside other apps without stealing focus.
- Fully automated combat; you step in for upgrades, synthesis, and loot collection.
- Cube system to add and reroll stats on gear.
- 3 Acts with 4 difficulty tiers each.
- Item rarities from Common through Cosmic, tradeable on Steam Market.
Free vs paid content
The base game is free. Optional DLC includes Supporter Pack, Hunter class, Slayer class, and Soundtrack. Priest class DLC is free. Launch discounts often apply for the first two weeks.
Getting Started
Install and launch
- Install from Steam (Windows 10/11 64-bit). Requires broadband for market features.
- On first launch, allow the game window to dock near your taskbar.
- Pin or keep the window visible — it is designed to sit in a corner of your monitor.
First hour checklist
- Assign skills on each hero after level-ups.
- Equip higher-rarity drops before selling or synthesizing.
- Unlock Act 1 Normal before pushing difficulty.
- Join the official Discord for patch notes and bug reports.
Controls & Hotkeys
Because the game window is tiny and draggable across monitors, display issues are the most common support topic. Official hotkeys while the game is running:
| Hotkey | Action |
|---|---|
| Shift + F11 | Reset display scale |
| Shift + F12 | Reset window position |
Multi-monitor tips
- If the window vanishes after moving between monitors, use Shift+F12 first, then F11.
- Dragging between monitors with different DPI can inflate UI scale — reset scale before moving again.
- If the game runs in background with no visuals or sound, verify Steam account, update GPU drivers, and report via help@tesse.co.kr with a short video.
Classes & Party
You field a three-hero party. Six base classes offer distinct roles; DLC adds Priest (free), Hunter, and Slayer. Frontline tanks absorb damage; backline deals AoE or burst.
Base classes (roles)
| Class | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Frontline tank | Reliable opener for Act 1 |
| Ranger | Ranged DPS | Strong frontline; watch positioning bugs |
| Wizard | AoE caster | Best behind tank; lightning can mis-fire if moving |
| Rogue | Burst melee | Scales with crit and attack speed gear |
| Sorcerer | Elemental caster | Channel skills need stationary casts |
| Cleric | Support heal | Stabilizes long AFK sessions |
Party formation
- Default: 1 frontline + 2 backline for early Acts.
- If backline heroes clip in front of Ranger frontline, swap positions or patch — community reports this with Ranger/Wizard pairs.
- Match class passives to item stats (e.g., attack speed on Rogues, spell power on casters).
Skills & Skill Tree
Each level grants skill points. Plan trees per hero — hybrid builds work early, but specialized trees outperform in Act 2+.
Allocation tips
- Prioritize survivability passives before luxury damage on your tank.
- Unlock core actives before maxing small stat nodes.
- Respec when Steam updates change skill values — check patch notes.
Known issues (workarounds)
- Stats from skills sometimes fail to persist after restart — re-open skill tree and re-apply points if numbers look wrong.
- Decorations on equipped items may not show stats until you unequip and re-equip.
- Boss kill heals you fully, but lingering projectiles can still hit — wait a second before celebrating.
Items & Rarities
Over 500 items drop while idle. Higher rarities carry more affixes and market value. Always compare before synthesis — accidental merges of strong white gear are a common regret.
| Tier (low → high) | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Common | Early fodder, synthesis fuel |
| Uncommon | Act 1 upgrades |
| Rare | Mid-game staples |
| Legendary | Build-defining effects |
| Immortal | Long-term gear goals |
| Arcana | High market interest |
| Beyond | Endgame chase |
| Celestial | Top-tier affixes |
| Divine | Extremely rare drops |
| Cosmic | Ultimate chase items |
Inventory safety
- There is no equipment lock yet — double-check synthesis ingredients.
- Sell or list on Market instead of fusing uncertain upgrades.
- Sort by rarity before bulk synthesis sessions.
Cube & Synthesis
The Cube adds random stats to items. Synthesis merges gear to raise item level — failures can downgrade results if your synthesis level is too low, which looks like a bug but is often a level gate.
Cube basics
- Use Cube on BiS pieces after you finish Act 1 gear.
- Rerolls consume resources — budget for long AFK farming.
- Target stats that match your class (crit, attack speed, spell power, HP).
Synthesis rules of thumb
- Raise synthesis level before fusing high-level gear.
- Lvl 10 gear dropping to lvl 5 usually means insufficient synthesis tier — not random bug.
- Never fuse your best piece when testing a new recipe.
Acts & Difficulty
Three Acts, each with four difficulty tiers. Clear Normal across an Act before jumping to higher tiers — enemy HP and affix pressure scale sharply.
Progression route
- Act 1 Normal: learn classes, fill rare slots.
- Act 1 Hard+: farm synthesis materials.
- Act 2: swap to elemental counters for spirits and generals.
- Act 3: min-max Cube stats and DLC classes if owned.
Builds & Meta
AFK farming (market focus)
Warrior + Cleric + Ranger with attack speed and drop-rate gear. Long sessions feed Steam Market listings — verify rarity before listing.
Push / progression
Wizard + Sorcerer + Warrior: AoE clear with tank frontline. Invest synthesis level before fusing Act 2 weapons.
Starter budget
Rogue + Ranger + Cleric — low investment, strong Act 1 clear. Transition to specialized trees by Act 2.
Steam Market
Items are tradeable on the Steam Community Market. Rarity and popular affixes drive price. List during peak player hours; check recent sales before undercutting.
- Enable Steam Guard and market confirmations.
- Never trade outside Steam for "better deals."
- Arcana+ tiers can take days to sell — price accordingly.
- Market UI bugs (missing listings) usually resolve on refresh or relog.
Achievements
56 Steam achievements cover story Acts, rarity collects, synthesis milestones, and class mastery. Use Steam overlay to track while AFK — many unlock passively during farming.
